DT Works Limited was honored to lead the construction of the Karen Campus of Nairobi Waldorf School, a visionary project designed as a “village for children” nestled within a forest landscape. Guided by the Waldorf Education philosophy, the campus was thoughtfully developed to foster creativity, independence, and a deep connection with nature.
Our team strategically placed the classrooms within natural forest clearings, preserving mature trees and integrating the existing residential structure into the school layout. This minimized ecological impact while maximizing available learning space. The architectural design features organic forms inspired by traditional Kenyan vernacular, helping the structures blend seamlessly with their environment.
Innovative “living walls,” made from layered polycarbonate filled with excavated soil and forest leaves, were introduced to bring nature into the classroom experience. These walls display roots, insects, and natural textures, creating a vibrant, evolving environment that reflects the biodiversity of the forest and reinforces the school’s educational approach.
Complementing the academic facilities, we constructed a football pitch and basketball court, giving students the opportunity to grow physically as well as mentally. These open-air courts support a well-rounded curriculum and reflect our commitment to creating holistic, inspiring spaces for learning and play.
Lavington Campus-Nairobi, Kenya
At the Lavington Campus, DT Works Limited was entrusted with delivering learning and spiritual spaces that reflect the Waldorf philosophy of holistic education. A key highlight of this development is the construction of a modern, purpose-driven library designed to enhance academic engagement and foster curiosity among students.
The library features an open-plan layout, natural lighting, and modular shelving that allows flexibility in use. Whether functioning as a reading area, research space, or collaborative learning zone, the library was built to inspire independent thinking and intellectual growth. Large doors open into the surrounding landscape, allowing nature and learning to merge seamlessly.
We also partnered with Cadplan Consultants Limited and Getso Consultants to construct a chapel that reflects both architectural elegance and spiritual depth. This sacred space now serves as a hub for reflection, worship, and community activities, reinforcing the school’s commitment to nurturing not only minds but also hearts and values.
Together, these facilities have significantly elevated the learning experience at the Lavington Campus. DT Works Limited remains proud to have contributed to a campus that supports academic excellence, spiritual enrichment, and the holistic development of its students.
